Toronto Trek 16 - Best con in a long time.

Toronto Trek

What can I say? It was the best con I’ve been to in years. The fires been rekindled.

Friday:
Traffic up from Buffalo was a breeze. Short delay at the Peace Bridge, and clear sailing all the way up. Checked into our hotel (The Marriott). There were 2 other events there that drove us nuts during the weekend. Next year, we’ll give the Regal another chance and stay there.

We hit the Regal and went to Pre-Reg. Breezed thru that and spent some time chatting with Stephen Christian. Great guy, good sense of humor. We proceeded to check things out, hit the dealers room and immediately found a nice amount of stuff to spend cash on. I managed to pick up a set of –original- deck plans for the enterprise. Definitely a good find. J We wandered into the art show and Susan found lots she liked, and we both put down several bids on stuff. Ran into Miko. He liked Susans Lara Croft outfit. Hit the art room and met Dave Blaser and spent some more time chatting. This is of course while Susan’s busy poinging around like a ferret over a painting she liked. We moved on from there, and hit “Mystery Phantom Menace 3000”. This was a gut buster. I can’t describe it other than to say, it was way beyond good.

Saturday:
Got a late start (that waking up thing), and headed over to the Regal. More passes thru the art room, dealers room and video room. Spent some quality time chatting with folks and met a lot of cool people. Ran into Miko a few times. All I can say is a Cardy with a goatee was different. (He’s a cool hoopy frood who definitely knows where his towel is). In the dealersroom the leather guys had fun putting Susan into different outfits, and we spent some time chatting with Kevin (concom. Sorry, didn’t catch the last name) and his S/O. We also spent quality time at the massage booth. Definitely good! After dinner we hit the Masq. Overflow room where Gord Rose stopped in to chat. He loved Susans pink bikini. (Yes guys, she exists). Gord is one of the most decent guys I've had the chance to chat with. (I spent some time chatting with him at Anime North too). Anyone who says otherwise, simply put doesn't know Gord. He mentioned the pink bikini at least 2 times during the masq. After the masquerade, we headed to the dance. It was definitely a magical night as I got to see a dear friend of mine realize one of her dreams, and we ended up talking to her and her boyfriend until 4am. Its been along time since we were able to chat and was definitely a high point of the con for me.

Sunday:
Sunday was a race to finish checking out of the hotel. That late bed time thing. Headed back to the Regal (Did I mention we’re staying there next year?) and hit the art room to see what we got. Wandered around a bit, hit the dealers room for a final pass, and then watched some vids in the video room. At 4 was time for our panel, and I think it went pretty good. The previous video ran late (what kinda crack was that anyway?) and killed about 15 min from it which wasn’t too cool. But there were about 15 people in there and it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. We spent some time chatting with Dave Greenlaw and some folks from Anime North. All in all, we didn’t leave the hotel until about 730pm.

All in all, it was a ton of fun. The quality and quantity of hall costumes was down from previous years. I have to believe that 9-11 is part of the cause. I took about 30 pics, mostly from the masqurade and will have them up soon. I’ve missed a bunch of things here. Too much to write, it was just too much fun.

A Definate "WELL DONE!" to con-com, and especially those folks mentioned for making this the most fun I've had in years. Its definately reignited the fan in my heart.

We are definitely looking forward to TT17, and if things go right, will definitely be a major presence there. Masqurade, artshow, modelshow and panels.

See ya next year!

Enjoy the Costumes below. Sadly I had camera issues, but this time I got 30 good ones. :)
