Toronto
Trek 17
July 11-13, 2003 · Regal Constellation Hotel
Toronto, Canada
This
year it was the best year ever, in my humble opinion. Damn glad I went.
The
trip up was a bitch. High winds, and a heavy hard rain made driving
a chore, esp. since I was driving Susans truck. Its always fun when
you’re not totally familiar with how a vehicle handles to do long
drives, but it got us there and back again. (A fanboys tale?) heh. This
year, due to a serious funding shortage we had the pleasure of sharing
a room with Gord Rose. Gord is a hell of a nice guy, and a gentleman
to boot. If it wasn’t for his encouragement and offer, we probably
wouldn’t have made it up, or if we did, not had as much fun. Thank
you Gord.
Gord
got there first, did the hotel check in, and we made short work of unloading
the truck, getting settled and doing the registration and required run
through the dealers room. Lots of cool stuff in there. Next time, more
cash, so more can find quality homes with us. J We did some more wandering
around, I checked my models into the model show (3 heavily painted and
modded Klingon D7 cruisers) and we signed up to put some bids into the
art auction. This year I got 5 furries from the very talented Jess Fox.
(jessfox.com). We did some more bumming around, meeting up with friends
and hit the 1st of many room parties this weekend. TJ, thanks for the
booze man. J After the party we hit the Karaoke. For those not familiar
with it, karaoke is Japanese for ‘death by music’. This
is where we hit con-complaint #1. The service in the bar was terrible.
This is –not- due to the 2 overwhelmed ladies who were working
their asses off, but poor staffing by hotel management. There was no
food available for purchase during the KK which was a major minus. A
few more people on duty would make things 200% better. Poor BJ spent
half the KK yakin with me, not knowing who I was. Hehehe. Poor gal.
We left KK and headed to the 2nd room party, this one by Jackie and
Bryan. Here is con-complaint #2. Hotel Security. These rent-a-cops were
out in full force, shutting down a ton of parties this weekend. I hope
next year they have the correct uniforms on..you know, brown shirts
with SS insignia. With how anal they were, I’m surprised there
weren’t any citations for walking on the wrong side of the hallway.
Despite these nazis though, we still had a blast at the party. We then
stumbled back to the room for a serious night of sleepin.
Saturday
is a blur. We got up, munched, and stumbled out to again experience
conness to its fullest. Saturday turned out to be the best day as I
got some good hall costumes, had the pleasure of seeing some excellent
cleavage thanks to many gals wearing either klingon armour or bodices.
I don’t recall too much of the day, outside of Susan being a model
for one of the artists, and me having the pleasure of photographing
1 of the MB Maidens. Amy, you are a wonderful person, and I will photograph
you anytime. We got some massages from the Shiatsu people. Folks, if
you didn’t you should. Excellent quality, and very affordable
rates. Towards evening things wound down a bit as the dinner was going
on, so we did a quick munch and then headed for the Green Room where
Susan was in the Masquerade this year with Agent I. No prize, but it
was funny. My regret was not getting any pictures of Miko and the Orion
Harem when I had the chance. Their skit in my opinion, was the best
in several years. Next up was the dance. Now this was fun. We had gals
wearing just their bras, and at least 2 were willing to show off quite
a bit more. Not being a dancer myself, I stayed on the sidelines shooting
photos. Susan had a few dances with some of the guys, and borrowed Brian
for the sexiest dance contest. We then headed out to BJ’s toy
party…man, that was interesting. All the guys with looks on their
faces that said ‘I don’t need that’. It’s a
shame that full demos weren’t allowed as I believe a few of the
gals were willing. CdB offered to help the gals, but I think they were
doing ok on their own. J Some orders will definitely be going in at
sometime I think. Good stuff. (plus the fetish party in the next room
was interesting.) We then headed to the Agents party. I’m telling
ya, theres something to be said for a party that mixed scratches, smooches,
hugs, booze, pixie sticks, spanking and lapdancing. The best part of
course was I was involved, not just watching. Heh. We didn’t crash
til almost 430 Sat night, and I wish we could have stayed longer.
Sunday:
Got up, packed, munched, cleared outta room, picked up art. Said our
goodbyes to everyone we could. I wish we could have stayed longer, but
Susan had to work on Monday, and I needed to get some real food in.
The
panels, videos, etc didn’t really interest us much this year,
but the truth is, we were mostly so busy doing other things, it didn’t
really matter. To me, that’s part of what makes a good con.
All
in All, we had a ton of fun, and it was a blast. A few small minuses,
easily outweighed by the bazillion plusses. We met a bunch of cool people,
saw folks we met last year, hung out with some of the coolest people
I’m proud to know.
ConCom
organized a great event, and their staffs and all the volunteers did
an excellent job. I know there were headaches and issues, but the key
point is, I never saw 99.9% of em, which is great!
We
will see you at TT 18!

Hall Costumes
Saturday
I took a few pics of the folks that really jumped out at me. Sadly,
there were a few more that I didn't get due to them being either
too far away, or me being involved with something else. |

Masqurade
This
years masqurade featured some incredible work. From superheros
to anime to fantasy to scifi to cartoons, it truely was one of
the best. Sadly, I missed getting shots of the group that in my
opinion was the best, the Green Orions. You can see them at my
good friend Miko's site scifipics.com.
I
would like to send a special shout out to TT staffer 'Chil'. A
few years ago his personal batleth 'disapeared'. Well, this year,
as a thank you for the hundreds and hundreds of hours of time
this selfless gentleman has given not only to Toronto Trek, but
other worthy events, he was presented with 2 steel Batleths. Thank
you for everything you have done. :) |

Toronto
Trek Dance by Keith and Gary
Keith
and Gary once again put on an awsome dance. For most of the night
the floor was packed with fans having fun. The famous Gord Rose
even was seen on the floor, in the company of a number of maidens.
